Mountain view

I am a big fan of the mountains now that I live in Switzerland. Taking a hike when you have a baby under one can sound very unrealistic, but we managed it for the first time a few weeks ago. We took the car until Oberrickenbach, then jumped in the cable car with the pram, baby and other accessories and in 10 minutes we were up to Bannalpsee. Once there we took a deep breath since the air suddenly got fresher (in Zurich there were around 35 degrees that day) and we had lunch with Luca on the terrace of the only restaurant/hotel from the area. And then we were off for a long walk/hike to admire the lake and the view of the mountains touching the sky. Notice how I get suddenly very poetic…the mountain does this to you…it just sets the mood for daydreaming and relaxing. Luca was so relaxed in the carrier that he fell asleep after 20 min. And for my boy to fell asleep in the carrier, now that is a big thing.

In all honesty we had a great family day. I could not recommend this more, especially if you have kids that are bit older. There were people swimming in the lake or simply just having a picnic there.

Travel: Mount Rigi

My favourite time of the year is now. I love summer and I believe it to be the time to travel around. We are so lucky to live in a country that offers so much to see and explore and this past weekend we went up on mountain Rigi. It was such a lovely day that we spent together as a family with Luca enjoying himself in his first ride on the train. We went by car to Vitznau, had lunch there, and we continued our journey by taking a train that took us up to Rigi Kaltbad. The view of Lake Luzern from up there was magical. We went for a walk with Luca in the stroller (he slept very well) and enjoyed a cup of coffee at one of the terraces.

Sunday walk to Stanserhorn

This past weekend we experienced what it would resemble an Indian Summer weekend in Switzerland. The sun was shinning and the temperatures were over 20 degrees, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to go up in the mountains and enjoy a bit of fresh air and Swiss views. We went to Stanserhorn, a mountain in the Lucern area, just one hour away by car from where we live. We went by car to Stans village, that again it worth a visit of a few hours, and from there we took a small train up the mountain. The train only goes half the distance, and the rest of the journey is done by the Cabrio cable car. It is actually a cable car without a rooftop and the view as you go up to 2000 m altitude are jaw dropping. Once you get at the top, you see Lake Luzern and Lake Zug plus all the mountains tops in the region.

Needless to say that it is another place in Switzerland that we loved and so worth a visit. Here are the pictures from our Sunday there.

What I have been up to lately

It was a nice weekend over here. My girlfriends traveled from different corners of Europe to Zurich for a girls weekend and we had a wonderful time together. We try to see each other once a year since we don’t live in the same city anymore. Last year we met in Rome. Besides planning the weekend, I read another book, watched a new movie and found the time to shop the summer sale. Only good stuff.

We tested 2 restaurants this weekend. If you want to have a nice brunch a la carte in Zurich, I recommend Bohemia. The food is very good and the place is something between an American diner and a German brasserie.  We also had dinner at TAO’s, good food and a nice ambiance especially if you get a table on the terrace, but the service was poor considering the prices on the menu.

I just finished reading The Devil’s Queen, A novel of Catherine de Medici by Jeanne Kalogridis. I liked it because it has a bit of everything: history, romance, intrigue and some mystique witchcraft.

One of my friends told me about this today, How a password changed my life. It is very motivational and it just proves the power of short messages. Read it and let me know if you are going to give it a try.

Summer sales are on. I had time this week to browse some shops online and not only. Zara, Massimo Dutti and Mango are just a few of my favs and online: Asos, Topshop, Yoox and The Outnet. Did you shop the sale?

I tried this quinoa recipe. I would just add a bit of parmesan and declare it perfect.

Ever since I got pregnant I have been eating fruits like there is no tomorrow. Currently my favourite snack includes watermelon and peaches.

And some pictures from this weekend. Have a great week, my dears!

This summer’s drink is Hugo, a very refreshing cocktail. (Not for pregnant ladies though since it has alcohol.)

Walking on top of Zurich

On Sunday, after a previous night in company of our friends, we knew we had a beautiful day ahead of us. And there was no doubt that we are going to spend it outside. So after a long breakfast we headed for a walk 800 meters on top of Zurich, in Felsenegg. The panorama you get from there is so beautiful, with an extended view of the lake and Zurich city. Utliberg is more known for offering a panorama of the city, but I have to say that after seeing Felsenegg, I find it much better. The nice thing is that you can have a hike between the 2 hills (just 1h and a half) or you can just go to Felsenegg and chose a route for a hike from there. We walked for about an hour in the area admiring the green fields and the scenery. The place was such a nice surprise that I am planning a picnic there in the near future.

Colours of the Fall

It is that time of the year when mornings are frisk and pumpkins can be seen everywhere. It’s fall, it’s different shades of orange, yellow and brown, it’s harvest time, it’s seating around the table and enjoying the goodies that the earth has given us. You can’t not embrace the season, and to do it properly you need to go in the middle of nature. So we spent our Sunday afternoon at one of the farm’s nearby, apple picking and enjoying the sun. We ate a delicious pumpkin soup, had plums that remembered me of my childhood and we also took some amazing pictures. It was a splendid September day and I can only recommend Backlihof Jona. You can buy all sorts of homemade goodies or just try their seasonal products.

I give you the orchard look. I am completely in love with my new hat from Zara.

Day trip to Oeschinen Lake

You know how we live in a country where at every corner you see a mountain top and a lake?! Well, last week we took a day trip to Oeschinensee, a place located in the Bern region that can be reached only by foot or by gondola. We had a wonderful day walking in the green fields only to reach the lake and to be amazed by the view. I highly recommend this day trip, the peace and tranquility of the mountains in summer time is precious. Also, even if we were up there only for a few hours, we felt like we were on holiday. Day trips are the perfect weekend escape, they just create the illusion of a longer trip.

Summer couple look

Last Sunday we went out for a coffee near our house and one of our friends took the below pictures of me and Traian. We have a lot of pictures of places we see but very few of the two of us, and very few that we actually like. So when I saw this ones I was extremely pleased, even more because Traian and I have somehow managed to wear matching outfits. Thank you, Vali! You made this girl very happy!

Him: Zara shoes, T-shirt, Shorts and Aldo hat.
Her: Banana Republic dress, Pull and Bear wedges,
Mango bag, H&M hat.

Friday Mindset

It’s barbecue season and we are about to have the first one this year at the house. Nothing better for ending your week, if you ask me. Tomorrow I have planned to spend most of the day in Zurich, getting my hair done and meeting a friend. In the evening we are going to have a small gathering at another friends house, enjoying a few drinks and having some laughs. So relaxing weekend ahead for us. I hope you have a good one as well. If you are in Zurich you might want to check the Bazaar tomorrow at Stall 6.

Some fun facts about Americans.

How to cook grilled artichokes? I am definitely giving this recipe a try.

I love this look very much and the Celine bag is on my wish list.

Cuffed jeans with statement shoes are something I could wear everyday.

Summer is all about fresh drinks. My favourite in summer time is Aperol Spritz, but I would not say no to this mojito.

Carries Bradshaw best fashion moments. This just confirms the urge I have to see the show again for the gazillion time.

A new shopping website. I want to give it a try. Let me know if you know it.

And the inspirational quote of the week. Enjoy!

Surprise Baby Shower

This Saturday I attended my first baby shower. It was a surprise party that we organized for Louise, our colleague. We schemed for about 2 months and we were so excited to see how the lovely Louise will react. We had a very nice and entertaining evening between us gals and I think the baby had a fun evening as well. We ate, drank, played games, shared experiences and important parenting and baby information, all while laughing and having fun. Our host was Flora, that managed to create the perfect setting for our gathering. Here are some photos from last night, all taken by my dear Dewi from Medejo.

The Apartment is all set to welcome the Baby Mama
Delicious Food, each guest had to bring something.

Terri’s cupcakes that made us all lick our fingers
Cinnamon Rolls, Swedish delicacy
